South Apopka Street Lighting Project Back on Track

The Orange County Board of County Commissioners voted to approve the necessary additional funds needed to complete the installation of 133 new street lights in South Apopka. Duke Energy will now work to schedule installation - we will be sure to keep everyone updated on the progress of this exciting project!

Phillis Wheatley School Update

It was great to see so many citizens at the John H. Bridges Center interested in the construction project at Phillis Wheatley. Some of the highlights included a great discussion about the security of the students (one access point during school day, gates, resource officers and cameras); refurbishing the gym with a new lobby, art and retractable bleachers; a skills room with at 30 computers plus computers in every classroom; and a cafeteria with a stage connected to the music classroom. This great new facility is scheduled to open in time for the next school year. Check back here for a link to the presentation.

Adopt a Fire Station Kick Off Event in Orlo Vista

Mayor Jacobs will be doing a kick off this year on Wednesday, November 6, 2025 at 2pm at the Orlo Vista Fire Station, located at 20 S. Hastings Street in the Orlo Vista community. She will speak about why we’re doing the Adopt a Fire Station Project, acknowledge the Orlo Vista fire station as being the first volunteer fire department and encourage citizens to adopt all 41 of our Fire Stations. The Orlo Vista community values its relationship with the local fire station, and is honored to be part of this special occasion which encourages everyone to show appreciation for their local station.

National Night Out at Lee Road Shopping Center

This past August 6th was an exciting day for Lee Road Safe. It was their second National Night Out event - and the first of hopefully many to be held at the Lee Road Shopping Center (at the corner of Adanson and Lee Road). Special thanks to all the vendors who participated. We are looking forward to an even better event in 2014. Contact us to get involved - see you there!

Pine Castle Walk to School Day

Wednesday October 9 Lancaster Elementary and Walker Middle Schools, located in the heart of Pine Castle, celebrated International Walk to School Day. Children received rewards from Chik-Fil-A and reflective slap bracelets from Orange County Neighborhoods Division reminding them to be seen when they walk. Best Foot Forward volunteers were out to remind drivers that IT’S THE LAW to yield to pedestrian at crosswalks. Consider this: the overwhelming majority of students thought that if they see a car, it means the car sees them. Let’s remember to look out for each other on the roads, especially our most vulnerable populations.
